Since it’s Presidents Day, I guess it’s time to shop!

I’m sure people with sales jobs dread this day, and I really want to know…
Why do we celebrate Presidents Day with store sales?
President’s Day was actually made a federal holiday to be celebrated on the third Monday of February in honor of George Washington’s birthday which is actually on February 22 and Lincoln’s birthday which is on February 12. Doesn’t it sound as if we as a government are using historic days as an excuse to have the day off from work? Today is the 18th, and it is neither Washington nor Lincoln’s actually birthdays, so what are we REALLY celebrating? A day off, when government employees probably don’t do much work to begin with? How many people that actually have the day off going to be celebrating this holiday? I guess you could count shopping for all those big sales a way of celebration! In that case, I am off to the mall to do my civic duties as an American citizen and celebrate.
Happy President’s Day!
